IN-HOME SERVICES
All treatments offered by Ascension Massage Services are non-sexual with the client fully clothed. Detailed explanations for each service are provided below. One hour is the usual duration for each treatment, however longer sessions are available by request.

Acupressure
Acupressure is an ancient Chinese therapy that differs from acupuncture in that any of the 341 acupoints are held using finger pressure instead of being pierced by needles. Acupressure is the 3rd most popular method for treating pain and illness in the world. Many massage schools in America offer an array of acupressure techniques as part of their bodywork programs. The World Health Organization conducted research on acupressure in the 1970's and declared that acupressure medicine is highly effective in treating 40 major diseases. It is considered a complete health system that has been documented for the treatment of over 3000 conditions and has no side effects. Jin Shin Do®, (The Way Of The Compassionate Spirit) a specialized form of acupressure is provided by Ascension Massage Services. This modality uses what are referred to as the strange flows or extraordinary meridians. In addition to the physical benefits, there is a very deep and powerful emotional component. The result is that the emotional residue from past abuse and trauma is released and resolved without the client reliving the traumatic or painful memories. Although it can be done just about anywhere, this form of acupressure is usually performed with the subject laying on a treatment table, however as a matter of necessity I have provided acupressure to people on a Canadian Navy Frigate while on active duty off the coast of Thailand, in the Northern Territory of Australia, aboard a commercial airliner and in the Rocky Mountains of Alberta.
Shiatsu
Shiatsu is a Japanese word meaning "acupressure". It is performed on a special chair in lieu of the treatment table and allows access to areas of the body that are difficult to reach, or are too sensitive or painful for the client to place their weight upon. Many people prefer the chair for sessions of short duration or when there are others present.​

This massage was developed almost 40 years ago by Arnold Porter, M.Ed. RCC., a Jin Shin Do Teacher and clinical counsellor. It was intended to relax and prepare the muscles that run along the acupressure meridians or channels that are about to be treated. I have found that it increases the efficacy of the treatment. Many of my clients choose to receive the 90 minute version of this massage. They claim that the healing effects of the longer treatment are deeper and longer lasting.

Reiki
Reiki is the wholistic practice of channeling healing energy through the hands. Common synonyms include; healing touch, hands-on healing, palm healing, qi healing, therapeutic healing, Pranic healing and the laying- on of hands. The idea of a person consciously directing life-force energy to another living being has been present in many cultures throughout the world for a very long time. The common thread that runs through all of them appears to be a genuine intention by one person to assist in the healing of another. I was told by
a fellow practitioner that there were Asian masters who believed that Christ was a very powerful Reiki Master. I have always thought that to be true. One thing I know for certain is that this practice works both in person, and over distance. People love it and animals seem drawn to it. In addition to humans, I have worked with many animals including; dogs, cats, horses, goats, sheep, alpacas, and hamsters, as well as, chickens, ducks, turkeys, budgies, pigeons, snakes and lizards.
